A Girl's Gotta Eat Her Cake

Do you like cake?  Probably.  Do you like the freedom of eating that cake whenever and however you want?  Probably.  Are you a baby?  Probably.

The other night, Sissy had her first cake eating extravaganza; it went from a nibble to a full blown chow-down.  It's cool though, she rocked the 80's look with flair, darling.  And much to my delight, I feel like this will be a preview of how the 1st birthday smash cake will go, which would be fantastic, since my boys just looked at theirs and then over at me like, "and what I am supposed to do with this?"

Happy To Be Three

About 7 months ago, give or take a few days, Arden turned three... And about 7 months ago, give or take a few days, Jameslyn was born.  Both were very special moments, and both of them involved me being tired, huge and pregnant/not pregnant.  Arden definitely got the short end of the stick on his birthday.  We just got a grocery store cake, had over our parents, sang and called it a day.  It was totally a legit birthday, but it also could have been better.  For the next 7 months, I talked frequently about the party that I was going to have for Arden.  Themes, food, people, etc.  Well that talk never materialized into an actual party...

Guilty mother that I am, I decided that I just needed to have the damn party and that no matter who showed up or what decorations I actually managed to make/buy that the party had to happen.  It was a nice party and he was happy to be three, because, well because he doesn't have a say in the matter.  We got a bouncy house, I made a cake (I think that's sorta my thing now...) and we ordered food.

The day started off with a knock on our front door at 6:45 am; the bouncy house was in da' house!!!  (Or really the back yard)  Despite being 3 hours early, we were all like: awesome and there was bouncing and sliding before 7:00 am.  The party ended when the birthday boy laid down on the couch and fell asleep; party over.  I know it wasn't over the top, or jaw dropping, but it was legit fun, something that cannot be overlooked and certainly the number one priority to a three year old.

I Totally Made This Thing

ATTENTION EVERYONE, I TOTALLY MADE THIS CAKE!
(Can you tell that in my mind, I'm kind of a big deal right now?)

When Cullen told me that he wanted a Ninja Turtle cake, I did what any parent would: google image searched Ninja Turtle cakes until I found one that I thought I could replicate.  With zero knowledge of cake decorating, unless you include countless hours spent watching Ace of Cakes and the cake testing for my wedding, I embarked on what I thought was sure to be a simple little cake.

Yo, I was wrong.

This thing was hard.  It was heavy and time consuming, but totally worth it when Cullen exclaimed, "Mom, I love it!"  (I swear, I didn't even make him say it.)  It brings back fond memories of the time my Grandmother made me a Barbie cake for my birthday and it was awesome; the skirt was made of cake! Who wouldn't want a cake skirt?!

As I warned all of my family members, if you don't like it, lie to me.  So on that sentiment, I will leave you with the cake from start to finish and the response I got from my sister after I emailed her pictures:

Megan- It looks really good
Me- Really or are you just saying that??  Because it took a lot of work!
Megan- Well you told me to lie; Just kidding, I think it looks good.  I bet for the party it will look even better
Me- Uhm, let's not go making assumptions... I literally gave it all I got this time!
Megan- Well you'll need to give it 110% next time
